Helping the USS Gridley Return to Sea
A Logistics Plus® Supply Chain Success Story! From Michigan to Mission Ready: Helping the USS Gridley Return to Sea
THE STORY
In 2021, the USS Gridley (DDG-101), an Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer homeported in Everett, Washington, was
unable to deploy because a critical piece of equipment—a
Slewing Arm Davit (SLAD)—had failed. After extensive repair
efforts proved unsuccessful, the U.S. Navy needed a
replacement transported quickly from Michigan to
Washington.
Logistics Plus coordinated the time-critical shipment through severe winter weather, ensuring the replacement arrived
safely and on schedule. Once installed and tested, the SLAD allowed the USS Gridley to return to operational readiness.
The project carried special significance for Logistics Plus. The
ship is named for Captain Charles Vernon Gridley, a naval
officer with deep ties to Erie, Pennsylvania, where Logistics
Plus is headquartered. Following the delivery, the ship’s commanding officer personally thanked the Logistics Plus
team, recognizing the drivers’ dedication and the company’s
role in helping the USS Gridley get back to sea.
