Coordinating the First Air Charter after 9/11
A Logistics Plus® Supply Chain Success Story!Logistics Plus Coordinated the First Air Charter From Europe to the U.S. After 9/11
THE STORY
When 9/11 happened, Logistics Plus coordinated the first post-attack airfreight charter delivery from Europe to the United States to get critical parts to a global transportation manufacturer.
THE HIGHLIGHTS
- In the minutes following the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the Logistics Plus team gathered at the clients routing center to devise a plan on how to keep the clients supply line running.
- All non-military flights were grounded with no timelines for re-opening.
- By the next morning, Logistics Plus engineered a Pan-European airfreight consolidation plan where all of the clients critical components from nine suppliers in six countries would be consolidated in Western Europe.
- Logistics Plus chartered an aircraft to stand by and take-off as soon as the FAA permitted international flights to resume.
- After many long hours and hundreds of issues resolved, the charter landed in the U.S. on September 18th just hours after the FAA lifted the international flight ban.
- In the days and weeks following 9/11, none of the clients assembly lines stopped due to missing parts.
