LP India Celebrates Independence Day

LP India Celebrates Independence Day

India is celebrating its 69th year of Independence this month. India became an independent nation on August 15, 1947. Independence Day in India is a day when Indian people pay homage to their leaders and those who fought for India’s freedom in the past. The period leading up to Independence Day is a time when major government buildings are illuminated with strings of lights and the tricolor flutters from homes and other buildings. In honor of this great holiday, the Logistics Plus (LP) employees in New Delhi, pictured below, joined in on the celebrations.

AHA Heart Walk LogoA couple months ago, Logistics Plus formally kicked off its campaign in support of the American Heart Association (AHA) Erie County Heart Walk. Jim Berlin, founder and CEO of Logistics Plus, is chairing the overall 2015 Erie County Heart Walk fundraising program for the community. The goal is to raise $225,000 before the event takes place on September 12, 2015. So far, over $78,000 has been raised through local individual and corporate donations.

Logistics Plus has eight teams, and over fifty employees participating in the campaign. You can view our Company Page and Teams online. Please visit the site and consider supporting one of our teams with a donation. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the No. 1 killer of all Americans. In fact, someone dies from CVD every 39 seconds. Heart disease also kills more women than all forms of cancer combined. And congenital cardiovascular defects are the most common cause of infant death from birth defects.

Erie-GivesIn less than a month, generous individuals and companies will have an even bigger incentive to donate to their local charities. August 11, 2015 will mark the 5th Erie Gives Day, which was started in 2011 in honor of the Erie Community Foundation’s 75th Anniversary. This event runs for 12 hours between 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on August 11, and the best part is, your Erie Community Foundation will match a percentage of each donation that you make to your favorite nonprofit(s) when you donate through this website. The more donations made to a nonprofit, the more matching funds that nonprofit will receive.

Donation matching? What better time to support your favorite local charity! If you choose to support the American Heart Association, click here for a PDF flyer with more information. You can also show your support for either AHA or Erie Gives, or both, by copying and pasting either of the images below into your email messages:

Erie gives, Logistics Plus gives … and we hope you’ll consider giving too.  Thank you.

Logistics Plus Rappels for Gaudenzia

Logistics Plus Rappels for Gaudenzia

Gaudenzia 2015Today three representatives from Logistics Plus rappelled “Over the Edge” down a 14-story, 200-foot tall building in downtown Erie, PA in support of Gaudenzia.  Gaudenzia helps people affected by chemical dependency, mental illness and related conditions to achieve a better quality of life — allowing them to live as productive and accountable individuals. Logistics Plus (LP) was a main sponsor for the event; and additionally, the LP rappelling team was able to raise another $1,000 for the charity. The three brave souls that climbed down the building today included Logistics Plus founder and CEO, Jim Berlin; North American account executive, Andy Seidler; and international manager, Abi Lopez Kuzma. Another 56 volunteers from around the community are also rappelling for Gaudenzia today.

The video shown below shows the highlights.

Logistics Plus Employees Zumba Their Way to Fitness

Logistics Plus Employees Zumba Their Way to Fitness

LP-Zumba-Fitness-ClassLogistics Plus continues its strong focus on employee fitness and wellness. In addition to being an American Heart Association Fit-Friendly Worksite, we also have a full-time head personal trainer on staff, and a complete fitness center at our Erie Union State Global Headquarters. However, that wasn’t quite enough for some of the Erie-based employees that had a few extra “springs in their step.” For that reason, Diana Sanchez from Logistics Plus International, became a certified Zumba® Fitness Instructor and started a new Zumba Fitness program using the company’s fitness center (with the full endorsement of our founder and CEO, of course). Based on the initial participation, the Zumba class seems to be an early success!

What is Zumba?  Zumba is a Latin-inspired, dance-fitness class that incorporates Latin and international music and dance movements. A Zumba class—known as a Zumba® Fitness-Party™combines fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body using an aerobic/fitness approach to achieve a unique blended balance of cardio and muscle-toning benefits. The classes, which are held at 121 West 14th Street (enter building at the main BrewErie entrance), are also open to the general public. For more details, please visit http://dianas17.zumba.com/

Logistics Plus Ramps Up Heart Walk Support

Logistics Plus Ramps Up Heart Walk Support

AHA Heart Walk LogoToday the Logistics Plus Global HQ employees in Erie, PA officially kicked off its campaign in support of the American Heart Association (AHA) Erie County Heart Walk. Upping the ante on our community service this year, Jim Berlin, founder and CEO of Logistics Plus, has volunteered to chair the overall 2015 Erie County Heart Walk fundraising program. The goal is to raise $225,000 within the community before the event takes place 115 days from today. So far, over $37,000 has been raised through local individual and corporate donations.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the No. 1 killer of all Americans. In fact, someone dies from CVD every 39 seconds! Heart disease also kills more women than all forms of cancer combined. And congenital cardiovascular defects are the most common cause of infant death from birth defects. The funds raised for the Heart Walk will support projects like these:

  • Putting up-to-the-minute research into doctors’ hands so they can better prevent and treat heart disease among patients.
  • Groundbreaking pediatric heart and stroke research. About 36,000 babies are born with heart defects each year —research is the key to saving babies’ lives.
  • Getting life-saving information to those who need it most – information that can save a life, like how to eat better, how to recognize the warning signs of heart attack, and how to talk to a doctor about critical health choices.

Why walk? Want to put more pep in your step? Try walking. It helps lower your risk for heart disease and stroke, gives you more energy – and it’s fun! Physical inactivity is a major risk factor for heart disease. Being inactive may contribute to high blood cholesterol, obesity, high blood pressure, and even diabetes. These are all risk factors for heart disease and stroke. So lower your risk – do more walking! You can start walking 10 minutes at a time, working your way up to 30 minutes on five or more days of the week. Research shows that getting at least 150 minutes of moderate physical exercise a week is best (that’s equal to about 1.5-3.0 miles of walking per day).

The 2015 Erie County Heart Walk will take place on Saturday, September 12 at Liberty Park. Please join us in our support of the AHA. You can register to participate in the walk or you can support the Logistics Plus team with a donation.
