Logistics Plus Recognizes Truck Drivers During NTDAW

NTDAW_LOGOWith this being National Truck Driver Appreciation Week (NTDAW), Logistics Plus would like to formally recognize and thank the 3.4 million professional men and women who deliver our goods safely, securely and on time, while working hard to keep our highways safe. Not only do we employee professional truck drivers directly through our NTL (National Truckload) division, and indirectly through our North American LTL and truckload brokerage solutions division – but our founder and CEO, Jim Berlin, originally got his start in the industry as a professional truck driver in the northeastern United States (see the bottom of our company overview page for more on Jim’s background).

The American Trucking Assocation (ATA) began celebrating National Truck Driver Appreciation Week in 1988 in an effort to honor those hard working men and women who deliver life’s essentials every day.  Watch the ATA video below and then learn more at www.trucking.org

Logistics Plus Attends Sino-Americas Regional Conference

Sinos-Americas-2015Logistics Plus employees, representing both LP Mexico and LP International, are attending the Sino-Americas Regional Conference 2015 in Miami, Florida this week. Logistics Plus is also a sponsor for the event. The conference began on Sunday, June 21 and ends on Wednesday, June 23. Organized jointly by WCA ltd and China International Freight Forwarders Association (CIFA), this event promises to be the most important networking and business-generating opportunity for any freight forwarder or logistics company looking to establish or expand its volumes into or out of this region.

As the key logistics hub between South, Central and North America, Miami plays a crucial role in facilitating trade between the Americas and the rest of the world. By attending this 3-day Logistics Plus hopes to open up a whole range of new potential business partnerships and to build our presence as an expert logistics provider to and from this market. The conference is open to all independent freight forwarders and vendors to the logistics sector, such as airlines, shipping lines, ports, airports, IT providers and equipment suppliers.

Logistics Plus Ramps Up Heart Walk Support

Logistics Plus Ramps Up Heart Walk Support

AHA Heart Walk LogoToday the Logistics Plus Global HQ employees in Erie, PA officially kicked off its campaign in support of the American Heart Association (AHA) Erie County Heart Walk. Upping the ante on our community service this year, Jim Berlin, founder and CEO of Logistics Plus, has volunteered to chair the overall 2015 Erie County Heart Walk fundraising program. The goal is to raise $225,000 within the community before the event takes place 115 days from today. So far, over $37,000 has been raised through local individual and corporate donations.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the No. 1 killer of all Americans. In fact, someone dies from CVD every 39 seconds! Heart disease also kills more women than all forms of cancer combined. And congenital cardiovascular defects are the most common cause of infant death from birth defects. The funds raised for the Heart Walk will support projects like these:

  • Putting up-to-the-minute research into doctors’ hands so they can better prevent and treat heart disease among patients.
  • Groundbreaking pediatric heart and stroke research. About 36,000 babies are born with heart defects each year —research is the key to saving babies’ lives.
  • Getting life-saving information to those who need it most – information that can save a life, like how to eat better, how to recognize the warning signs of heart attack, and how to talk to a doctor about critical health choices.

Why walk? Want to put more pep in your step? Try walking. It helps lower your risk for heart disease and stroke, gives you more energy – and it’s fun! Physical inactivity is a major risk factor for heart disease. Being inactive may contribute to high blood cholesterol, obesity, high blood pressure, and even diabetes. These are all risk factors for heart disease and stroke. So lower your risk – do more walking! You can start walking 10 minutes at a time, working your way up to 30 minutes on five or more days of the week. Research shows that getting at least 150 minutes of moderate physical exercise a week is best (that’s equal to about 1.5-3.0 miles of walking per day).

The 2015 Erie County Heart Walk will take place on Saturday, September 12 at Liberty Park. Please join us in our support of the AHA. You can register to participate in the walk or you can support the Logistics Plus team with a donation.

Entrepreneur of the Year Hall of Fame

Entrepreneur of the Year Hall of Fame

Last week Jim Berlin, CEO and owner of Logistics Plus Inc., and Yuriy Ostapyak, director of global operations, both attended the EY Strategic Growth Forum in Palm Springs, CA where the annual EY Entrepreneur of the Year™ awards was presented. Jim and Yuriy both report that the conference was entertaining and inspirational and they brought back a lot of ideas learned and shared with fellow entrepreneurs at the conference.

The conference included many thoughtful and insightful presentations from well-known celebrities such as Ron Howard, Seth, Myers, Emmitt Smith, Jimmy Johnson, and David Robinson, as well as accomplished entrepreneurs such as Tony Hsieh (CEO for Zappos) and Patricia Woertz (CEO for Archer Daniels Midland Company).

As a very entrepreneurial company in its own right, Logistics Plus would like to congratulate Mr. David Hung, CEO, and founder of Medivation, one of biotech’s greatest success stories, for taking home the “2014 EY Entrepreneur of the Year” award. We’d also like to congratulate the many regional winners and finalists for their extraordinary achievements.

Of course, Jim Berlin is no stranger to the EY Entrepreneur of the Year awards having won an award himself back in 2004 for the Western Pennsylvania and West Virginia Region. Jim is also a lifetime member of the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year Hall of Fame, a truly well-earned distinction (see image below, which can be found on the www.ey.com website).
