Logistics Plus and the Success Through Sports Foundation: Investing in Erie’s Future Through Athletics

Logistics Plus and the Success Through Sports Foundation: Investing in Erie’s Future Through Athletics

LP Wall Mural at ESCFor nearly 30 years, Logistics Plus has proudly called Erie its home. Through the philanthropic efforts of the Berlin family and the Success Through Sports Foundation, that commitment continues to extend beyond business and onto the playing fields.

The Success Through Sports Foundation, based at the Erie Sports Center (ESC), is experiencing record growth and impact across its programs, expanding access to athletics, training, and academic opportunities for youth throughout the region.

Record Growth and Community Impact

According to ESC leadership, every program saw record participation last year, making it the most successful year in the organization’s history. The facility is now operating at full capacity across multiple disciplines:

  • Nearly 70 children are participating in sports at no cost
  • Hundreds of youths engaged in free summer clinics
  • Ongoing support for Erie School District sports programs with training space and facility access
  • A growing academy program with close to 100 students representing 16 countries

The ESC dome is fully booked through early May, with regional leagues and tournaments utilizing the facility year-round. In addition, partnerships with collegiate and national organizations continue to elevate Erie’s profile as a regional sports destination.

Transformational Growth Ahead

Erie Sports Center - Transformational Growth AheadThe next phase of development is expected to be transformational.

Plans are underway to turf all outdoor fields and add lighting, creating 9 multipurpose baseball and softball fields while maintaining 9 soccer, lacrosse, and football fields. Two of the largest baseball organizations in the country are currently bidding to designate ESC as a regional super center, which would bring approximately 30 tournament weekends to the facility annually.

Recent capital improvements already include a $70,000 investment in upgraded baseball field backstops and dugouts.

These developments not only enhance Erie’s sports infrastructure but also generate significant economic impact through tournaments, showcases, and visiting teams.

A Commitment Beyond the Game

At its core, the Success Through Sports Foundation exists to remove financial barriers and ensure that all children — regardless of economic circumstances — have access to athletics, mentorship, and opportunity.

With continued support from Jim Berlin and his foundation, Logistics Plus has helped expand that access.

“Erie has given so much to Logistics Plus over the past 30 years,” said Jim Berlin, Founder and CEO of Logistics Plus. “Supporting initiatives that give local kids opportunity, whether in the classroom, on the field, or in life, is something we believe in deeply. Success Through Sports is making a real difference.”

As ESC continues to grow into a regional hub for youth development and competitive athletics, the impact extends well beyond wins and losses. It strengthens families, supports schools, drives economic activity, and creates pathways for young people to build confidence, discipline, and leadership skills. Just this week, ESC was named among the top 3 All-Star Multisport Complexes in America.

“The next 12 months will be game-changing with the confirmation to finally turf all the fields and add lights,” said Troy Bingham, Owner of ESC. “We have invested in the baseball field at the front with new backstop fences and dugouts as well.”

For Logistics Plus, it’s another example of being Built For What’s Next — not only in global logistics, but right here at home in Erie.

The mural is expected to be completed in early October, with a public unveiling event to follow.

Joe Moore Award Mural in Downtown ErieERIE, PA (September 16, 2025) – Logistics Plus, Inc. (LP), a global leader in transportation, logistics, and unique supply chain solutions, is excited to announce a new community art project in partnership with local Erie muralist Jason Mumford. A large-scale mural celebrating the prestigious Joe Moore Award, college football’s top honor for offensive linemen, is currently underway on the side of the Logistics Plus Erie Times-News building on 12th Street in Erie, PA.

The mural will bring national sports recognition to downtown Erie while highlighting the city’s connection to both the Joe Moore Award and Logistics Plus, its Exclusive Logistics Partner. Jason Mumford, an Erie native known for his bold, dynamic murals across the region, was commissioned to design and paint the piece.

“This project combines our passion for logistics, our pride in Erie, and our excitement for college football’s greatest offensive line trophy,” said Jim Berlin, Founder & CEO of Logistics Plus. “We’re proud to work with Jason to create something that will inspire the community and become a local landmark.”

Jason Mumford’s public artworks have become landmarks across Northwestern Pennsylvania. Since launching his mural work in the mid-2000s, Mumford has brought to life many pieces that blend Erie’s history, civic pride, and strong visual messaging. Among his most recognized works are “Don’t Give Up the Shipment,” a mural commissioned by Logistics Plus on the old Dana Brake building at Wayne & 14th Streets, which draws on imagery of Oliver Hazard Perry, the Brig Niagara, and the War of 1812 to both celebrate Erie’s maritime legacy and inspire persistence. He is also well known for painting the welcome murals on the Peach Street and Sassafras Street overpasses, which greet people entering downtown and have been refreshed over time to reinforce positive messages for the community.

The Joe Moore Award mural is expected to be completed in early October, with a public unveiling event to follow.

About the Joe Moore Award

The Joe Moore Award is named after Joe Moore, widely regarded as one of the best offensive line coaches in college football history, most notably for his work at Notre Dame and the University of Pittsburgh. Coach Moore sent 52 players on to the NFL, including Bill Fralic, Mark May, Russ Grimm, Jimbo Covert, Andy Heck and others. The Joe Moore Award trophy, crafted by legendary sports sculptor Jerry McKenna, is the largest trophy in college football, standing at a height of seven feet and weighing in at more than 800 pounds. The perpetual trophy is made available for display by the winning university until the conclusion of the following college football season. Learn more at joemooreaward.com.
