On September 7th, nearly 20 Logistics Plus employees participated and conquered the 2019 Barber Beast on the Bay! As the official medal sponsor for the event, Logistics Plus was proud to help support the Barber National Institute for the work they do in the Erie community. The Barber National Institute helps children and adults with autism, intellectual disabilities, and behavioral health challenges.
The Beast on the Bay is a challenging 10-mile race that features 30 obstacles in the sand, lake, swamp, and trails. Congratulations to everyone who participated and completed this challenging, yet exciting course.
September 8-14th, 2019 is National Truck Driver Appreciation Week (NTDAW). This year, Logistics Plus and National Truckload (NTL) would like to thank the 3.5 million professional truck drivers that are delivering for America. As one of the most demanding and important jobs in America, truck drivers are responsible for delivering our goods safely, securely, and on time, while keeping our highways safe. We ask that you join us this week to celebrate and honor our truck drivers for all of their hard work and dedication.
TRUCKING INDUSTRY FACTS AND FIGURES:

Most grocery stores would run out of food in three days if long-haul truck drivers stopped driving.
There is currently an estimated shortage of 48,000 truck drivers in the U.S.
The average professional long-haul trucker drives more than 100,000 miles per year.

Erie never gave up the ship* … and Logistics Plus never gives up theshipment! In that spirit, Logistics Plus was the proud sponsor of the Picton Castle, one of many vessels that participated in the 2019 Tall Ships Erie Festival from August 22nd to the 25th. The Tall Ships festival is a three-day maritime celebration hosted at various Erie waterfront locations. The event offered the opportunity for people to sail away on select ships, enjoy live music and entertainment, try out local food vendors, host children’s activities, and much more.
* “Don’t give up the ship” was the famous dying command of James Lawrence in 1813 aboard the USS Chesapeake
In addition to the three-day Tall Ships event, Logistics Plus hosted its 23rd annual anniversary party Friday night at the Erie Maritime Museum where the Picton Castle was docked. Logistics Plus employees were joined by customers, partners, and guests who were able to tour the Picton Castle, explore the Maritime Museum, and enjoy light food and beverages. Thank you to everyone who attended and helped us celebrate this special occasion!
On Friday, June 28th, Logistics Plus celebrated the first annual National Logistics Day at our Global Headquarters in Erie, PA. Logistics Plus helped to create National Logistics Day as a way to recognize and appreciate the importance of the logistics industry in both our national and global economies. At its inaugural event, Logistics Plus was pleased to host local politicians, customers, vendors, partners, and guests. The event featured city-, county-, state- and U.S.-level National Logistics Day proclamations; a short video presentation; sponsorship announcements; open-house tours; giveaways; the Logistics Careers Plus More For Dummies book launch; and more! We look forward to celebrating this new national holiday for many more years to come!
Prior to the event, Scott Frederick was featured on WJET 1400 Erie News Radio alongside Erie Mayor, Joe Schember. For the third consecutive year, Logistics Plus was a proud sponsor of the Best of Varsity Cup Awards at the Bayfront Convention Center in Erie, PA. Logistics Plus joined the Erie Times-News (GoErie.com), and many others, to celebrate and honor the accomplishments of the 2018-2019 all-area high school student athletes from 45 high schools across 8 counties in 24 sports. The awards banquet serves as a way to say thank you to the thousands of outstanding high school athletes, coaches, and fans who allow Erie Times-News to share their stories, performances, and passions. As a presenting sponsor for the event, Logistics Plus had a number of employees present, along with our special guests from the Barber National Institute.
The evening included a nice dinner, awards ceremony, and presentation by Buffalo Bills legend and Hall-of-Famer, Jim Kelly. Before the event, Jim Kelly paid a visit to the Logistics Plus Global Headquarters at Union Station to meet with some of our very own cancer survivors and super-fans. What was the takeaway of the night from Jim Kelly? “Make a difference today for someone who is fighting for their tomorrow.”
The following video message from our CEO, Jim Berlin, and employees was shown at the beginning of the ceremony. Photographs from the event posted on the Logistics Plus Flickr Page can also be seen below.
