Bridge-Building Logistics in the Himalayan Mountains of Northern India
Logistics Plus India Provides Logistics Support for New Bridge Between Sonprayag and Gaurikund
ERIE, Pa. (April 6, 2016) – Logistics Plus Inc., a worldwide provider of transportation, logistics and supply chain solutions, reports that its India Division (aka, “LP India”) played a major role in coordinating logistics for the successful completion of an important bridge in the Himalayan mountains of northern India between the cities of Sonprayag and Gaurikund. The bridge, constructed across Mandakini River, was completed in the record time of 30 days thanks, in part, to the logistical support LP India provided to the overall construction project.
The previous bridge had washed away twice within the past three years due to unprecedented flooding that began back in 2013. The new, more permanent bridge was sourced and shipped from a New Jersey, USA bridge builder. The bridge parts moved by container ship to Bombay, and then by train to New Delhi, and then by road to Rishikesh on container lorries. Transshipment by smaller trucks was required for the last leg to Sonprayag. In all, it was a mind boggling logistics exercise carried out to military precision by the LP India team.
“The site for the bridge posed many challenges,” said Sundreysh Sarup, managing director for LP India. “The history of floods demanded elaborate logistical planning and execution. The logistics of transporting a bridge to Sonprayag 250 kilometers from Rishikesh was no simple matter. It took significant planning and great coordination to ensure all of the equipment and parts arrived to the job site on time and intact. I am very pleased the project was a success, which will most certainly give a boost to commercial activity within the region.”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Logistics Plus CEO Commends GE on Moving its Headquarters to an Urban Location
Says businesses and communities need vibrant city centers to thrive
ERIE, Pa. (January 15, 2016) — Today, Logistics Plus Inc. founder and CEO, Jim Berlin, commended General Electric (GE) for announcing on Wednesday that it will move its headquarters from suburban Connecticut to the urban, Seaport District of Boston, Massachusetts. Logistics Plus is a worldwide provider of transportation, logistics and supply chain solutions with its global headquarters located in the heart of downtown Erie, Pennsylvania.
As widely reported, GE said it will begin moving its corporate employees to a temporary space in Boston starting this summer. The full move will take place in several steps through 2018 and will deliver about 800 jobs to the City of Boston. GE officials pointed to Greater Boston’s concentration of elite universities and nimble tech firms as the main draw.
Mr. Berlin’s statement follows:
“I congratulate GE on finally following the lead of Logistics Plus by locating their headquarters in an urban area. Following our successes here in downtown Erie, like Logistics Plus, they clearly recognize that businesses and communities need vibrant city centers to thrive. The proximity of local universities can also help their business blossom while preventing the brain drain that sucks many of the best and brightest graduates away from their home cities. In the case of Erie, we have several fine universities that feed Logistics Plus bright young employees – and I am sure GE will enjoy similar success in their new location. We’ve brought in dozens of interns from the four colleges in our area over the past several years, many of whom remain with us today.
“When Logistics Plus purchased and renovated the old Union Station in downtown Erie back in 2003, some people thought I was a visionary; but most probably considered me delusional. Still, I thought it was a cool place for a transportation company and a good thing for the community. My goal was to make Logistics Plus the most exciting place in which to work and Erie the great town in which to live. Last year we enjoyed record annual sales, we now have well over 100 employees working in Erie, and own three warehousing facilities in the city. While our mission is far from complete, I think we’ve made great progress.
“This is an exciting time for GE and the City of Boston. GE is moving into a great place to really set a new tone for the company, and do great things within the community. I congratulate them on their decision and commend them on following the lead of Logistics Plus when it comes to inner city development.”

Logistics Plus Dallas/Fort Worth Warehouse Receives Foreign Trade Zone Activation
The 180,000 Square Foot Warehouse Also Boasts the Biggest Forklift in Northern Texas

The Logistics Plus DFW Warehouse
ERIE, Pa. (December 1 , 2015) — Logistics Plus Inc., a worldwide provider of transportation, logistics and supply chain solutions, is proud to announce that it has filed and secured activated status from U.S. Customs & Border Protection (CBP) for a general purpose Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) at its Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW), Texas warehouse located at 920 Westport Parkway, Haslet, TX 76177.
As previously announced, Logistics Plus moved into the new facility in early October. The DFW warehouse has 180,000 square feet of storage space and a pneumatic tire forklift that has 62,000 pounds of lifting capacity – giving it the largest operating forklift in the Dallas/Fort Worth metro area and surrounding region. The move to the larger facility and the activation of FTZ protocols were partly driven by a contract Logistics Plus was awarded in July to provide consignment warehousing services to GE Transportation, a division of General Electric, and its suppliers.

The Biggest Forklift in Northern Texas!
“We were given a very tight timeline to move into the new DFW warehouse and have FTZ status vetted and activated by CBP before the end of the year,” said Jim Berlin, founder and CEO for Logistics Plus. “Because of a tremendous team effort, we were able to successfully move all inventory from the old facility to the new one in just four days, test and implement the required FTZ software protocols, and work with CBP officials to get the FTZ status activated ahead of schedule.”
Thousands of U.S. businesses have discovered that Foreign Trade Zone utilization can prove to be an incredibly effective tool to help develop new markets while systematically increasing profitability from both their existing operations and international trade relationships. CBP has declared FTZs to be the best practice for compliant management of global supply chains, coordinated logistics, and integrated manufacturing operations. FTZs enable importers and exporters to consistently benefit from this CBP-privileged status, offering duty savings, reduced transportation and insurance costs, and the flexibility to do in America what is too often done offshore. If the finished products are exported from an FTZ, the original Customs duties are reduced.
