Logistics Plus Receives Plastic Neutrality Certification for a Third Year
Seventy-two thousand pounds of plastic waste collected in 2022 is credited to Logistics Plus.
ERIE, PA (May 23, 2023) – Logistics Plus Inc., a leading worldwide provider of transportation, logistics, and supply chain solutions, is proud to announce that it has received the official Ocean IntegrityPlastic Neutrality Certification for 2022 – a third straight year. In 2022, Logistics Plus reduced its plastics footprint by supporting the collection of 72,000 pounds of marine plastic and waste.
Logistics Plus formally partnered with Ocean Integrity in February 2020 to support its ongoing ocean cleanup initiatives, including purchasing 1,200 recycled pallets made from 13,200 pounds of plastic waste in March 2021. To date, through financing and logistics support, Logistics Plus is being credited with removing over 3.5 million kilos of ocean plastic waste, the equivalent of 175,000,000 plastic water bottles.
“As the first third-party logistics company to become certified under the Blue Ocean Program, Logistics Plus is proud to be a leader in plastic neutrality,” said Yuriy Ostapyak, COO for Logistics Plus. “We are mostly a non-asset-based logistics company, so we don’t own the trucks, planes, or boats that deliver our customers’ shipments, and our scope 1 and 2 carbon footprint is small. For that reason, we have focused on offsetting our plastic use. The amount of ocean plastic waste collected on our behalf is more than one hundred times our actual plastic footprint.”
About Ocean Integrity
Ocean Integrity’s primary objective is to mitigate the amount of plastic going into the World’s oceans and significantly reduce and remove the plastic waste in the significant waste collection areas in the World’s oceans. Ocean Integrity reclaims plastic materials from the sea through innovative techniques that vary based on the size and concentration of the plastic waste material encountered. Sustainability plays a vital part in logistics. The logistics industry is responsible for transporting, storing, and distributing goods, accounting for a significant portion of greenhouse gas emissions. As a result, there is a growing focus on sustainable logistics practices that can help reduce the industry’s environmental impact.
There are many ways to make logistics more sustainable. Some of the most common practices are listed below.
Use more efficient transportation methods. This could include using electric vehicles, optimizing delivery routes, or consolidating shipments.
Reduce packaging. This could be done by using recycled materials, designing packaging that is easy to reuse, or eliminating unnecessary packaging entirely.
Support green suppliers. Before selecting raw materials, research the supplier’s energy consumption, waste, and emissions. Keeping track of these vital environmental metrics can go a long way.
Utilize technology. Having the correct data at your fingertips is crucial for reducing your carbon footprint.
Invest in sustainable projects. Businesses can invest in sustainable projects like renewable energy or reforestation projects. This can help to offset their environmental impact.
By adopting sustainable logistics practices, businesses can help to reduce their environmental impact and improve their bottom line. In addition, sustainable logistics can help to improve customer satisfaction and brand reputation.
Here are some of the benefits of sustainable logistics:
Reduced environmental impact. Sustainable logistics practices can help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, air pollution, and water pollution.
Improved efficiency. Sustainable logistics practices can help to improve efficiency by reducing waste and optimizing transportation routes.
Lower costs. Sustainable logistics practices can help to lower costs by reducing fuel consumption and energy usage.
Improved customer satisfaction. Customers are increasingly concerned about the environmental impact of the products they buy. By adopting sustainable logistics practices, businesses can improve customer satisfaction and loyalty.
Increased brand reputation. Businesses that are seen as being sustainable are often seen as being more responsible and trustworthy. This can lead to increased brand reputation and sales.
Sustainable logistics is a growing trend driven by several factors, including increasing environmental concerns, rising fuel prices, and government regulations. Businesses that adopt sustainable logistics practices can benefit from several advantages, including reduced environmental impact, improved efficiency, lower costs, improved customer satisfaction, and increased brand reputation.
Logistics Plus Helps Remove 3.5 Million Kilos of Plastic from the Pacific Ocean
Three million five hundred thousand kilos of plastic is equivalent to 175 million plastic water bottles.
ERIE, PA (October 20, 2022) – Logistics Plus Inc., a leading worldwide provider of transportation, logistics, and supply chain solutions, is proud to announce that it has helped finance the collection of 3,500,000 kilos (over 7 million pounds) of ocean plastic through the Restoring Integrity To The Oceans (RIO) Blue Ocean Program over the last two years. Earlier this year, Logistics Plus also received the official (RIO) Plastic Neutrality Certification for 2022, its second year in a row.
The plastics collection was overseen by Ocean Stop! and carried out by indigenous fishermen. The 3,500,000 kilos of plastic collected is equivalent to 175,000,000 plastic water bottles and more than one hundred times the plastic footprint of Logistics Plus. The collection of this much plastic is estimated to save the global economy up to $115,500,000.
RIO Chairman Kieran Kelly expressed his gratitude for working with Logistics Plus. “Logistics Plus has partnered with RIO on multiple environmental projects. This company is the most eco-friendly logistics company in the world, and they are true ocean heroes. Jim Berlin, Yuriy Ostapyak, and the entire team are environmental rockstars.” Kieran added, “We can rid our ocean of plastic waste. It just takes teamwork and commitment to do so.”
