Logistics Plus Celebrates 10 Years of Business in Turkey
10 years later, LP Turkey remains one of the company’s fastest growing divisions.
ERIE, PA. (September 4, 2019) – Logistics Plus Inc. (LP), a leading worldwide provider of transportation, logistics and supply chain solutions, is proud to celebrate its 10th year of business operating in Turkey.
In 2009, Logistics Plus established its first Turkey office in Mersin (a Mediterranean seaport city); then offices were opened in Istanbul in 2010, in Izmir in 2012, and Ankara in 2014. In 2010, one year after its opening, Turkey was chosen to host the company’s first-ever global meeting for Logistics Plus representatives from more than a dozen other countries around the world. When asked why, Founder and CEO Jim Berlin said, “It’s not always about the United States. Turkey is something of a crossroads for the world, where West meets East, and it is also a beautiful country.”
Turkey has an advantageous position between Europe and Asia, giving it an important transit function. Much of the country is like a giant peninsula and it is very easy to reach by ship – both from the Mediterranean and the Black Sea. Most transports are done via sea or road. Under the leadership of Managing Director Bahadir Erdil (also Global Projects Director for all of Logistics Plus), and Operations Manager Basar Kandil, LP Turkey provides compete services for heavy-lift, break bulk, and large-scale project cargo. Hundreds of cargo projects have been safely and successfully transported by LP Turkey, including brewery tanks, boilers, castings, cranes, drilling rigs, fire engines, gearboxes, girder bridges, wind mills, stators, storage tanks, transformers, tubes, tugboats, wagons, and much more!

THE HISTORY OF LOGISTICS Almost 750 years ago, on June 28th* of 1271 (*quite possibly, but maybe not) the logistics industry first started to take shape when Marco Polo journeyed to China on the “Silk Road” and kept a detailed written record, paving the way for future traders and merchants traveling between Europe and China. In 1896, the first “horseless carriage” semi-truck was invented, improving how goods moved across our country. The first air cargo flight took place in 1910 between Dayton and Columbus, increasing the speed with which goods could be delivered in the U.S. In 1956, the first container ship sailed from the port of New Jersey to Texas, forever changing how goods would move around the world. Logistics connects the world and always will.

New England Motor Freight, Inc. (NEMF), the 19th largest less-than-truckload carrier in the United States, yesterday announced that the Company and ten related entities have voluntarily filed for relief under Chapter 11 of the Bankruptcy Code in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey in Newark on February 11, 2019. NEMF intends to use these proceedings to facilitate an orderly wind-down of its operations.
While industry watchers knew NEMF was having problems, no one had anticipated a bankruptcy filing and a subsequent shutdown. As a result of yesterday’s announcement, NEMF was removed as an LTL freight carrier option from the LogisticsPlus eShipPlus™ TMS, and we are recommending to our customers that no new shipments be tendered to NEMF at this time. If you have any current, undelivered shipments with NEMF through Logistics Plus, please contact us if you have any questions.
